Sometimes the internet can surprise us with incredible acts of kindness. A Red Baron pizza worker named Walt was stocking frozen pizzas in a Michigan grocery store. A prankster approached him, pretended to steal money from his phone, and filmed it. Walt became emotional and said his life was already hard enough.
The prankster played a fake Apple Pay sound near Walt's pocket. He then told Walt that he had just taken ten dollars from him. Walt, a father of four, was clearly upset by the cruel joke. He told the prankster he was not in the mood for it.
The video spread rapidly across social media platforms. Many viewers were outraged by the prank and rallied behind Walt. A stranger named Luke started a GoFundMe fundraiser to support the harassed worker. Within just three days, over 18,000 donors had contributed more than $680,000.
Walt said he was blown away by the overwhelming support from strangers. Red Baron, his employer, also publicly backed him on social media. The company named him employee of the month after the incident. This heartwarming outcome reminds us that compassion can overcome cruelty.
