Gold prices in Turkey have risen sharply in recent weeks. The price per gram has passed 6,900 Turkish lira, a critical level for investors. This surge is part of a broader global rally in precious metals. Safe-haven demand and inflation concerns are driving the momentum higher.
Several factors have contributed to this price increase. Globally, gold rose about ten percent in August from near four thousand dollars. Central banks purchased a record 289 tonnes of gold in the second quarter. Softer economic data from the United States has also supported higher prices.
In Turkey, gold holds a unique cultural and financial significance. Turkish households hold an estimated five hundred billion dollars in physical gold. Many families keep gold at home to protect their wealth from inflation. Gold bracelets and coins are also given as traditional gifts at weddings.
Analysts believe that gold will remain attractive while the lira stays weak. The Turkish lira has fallen roughly eighteen percent this year against the dollar. If inflation were to decrease significantly, demand for gold might slow down. However, most experts expect strong demand to continue throughout the year.
