The property sits on the Bosphorus strait in the Kanlıca district. It was listed for $55 million by the heirs of late businessman Faruk Yalçın. The $25 million gap between the offer and the asking price remains significant.
Ulukaya is now regarded as the wealthiest Turkish-born person in the world. His fortune is estimated at approximately $13.7 billion according to Forbes. Nearly all of his wealth is tied to his ownership stake in Chobani. The company was recently valued at $22 billion after a major equity investment. Ulukaya reportedly plans to spend more time in Istanbul going forward.
His entrepreneurial journey is often described as remarkable. He moved to the United States with limited resources in the 1990s. In 2005, he purchased a defunct yogurt factory in upstate New York. Within five years, Chobani achieved over $1 billion in annual sales. The brand disrupted the entire American dairy market with Greek-style yogurt.
