OpenAI has launched a major new business unit called the OpenAI Deployment Company. The subsidiary, also known as DeployCo, has been designed to help organizations adopt AI. It was established with more than four billion dollars in initial funding. The venture is majority-owned and controlled by OpenAI itself. This strategic move signals a significant shift in how AI companies approach enterprise clients.
DeployCo will embed specialized engineers directly inside client organizations. These professionals, known as Forward Deployed Engineers, will work alongside business leaders. They will identify where AI can create the most operational value. Their role involves redesigning critical workflows around AI capabilities. The approach follows a structured model from diagnostic assessment to full production deployment.
To staff the new unit immediately, OpenAI has agreed to acquire Tomoro. Tomoro is an applied AI consulting firm with approximately one hundred and fifty engineers. These specialists had previously delivered AI systems for companies like Tesco and Virgin Atlantic. The investment consortium behind DeployCo includes nineteen global firms. Partners range from TPG and Goldman Sachs to consultancies such as McKinsey and Bain.
The enterprise AI market is projected to grow substantially over the coming decade. However, meaningful transformation within organizations has remained limited despite widespread adoption. Only around thirty percent of companies have redesigned their processes around AI. DeployCo represents OpenAI's strategic response to this persistent implementation gap. If companies had addressed this challenge earlier, they could have gained a considerable competitive advantage.
