Gold prices have surged past $4,300 per ounce in recent days. The precious metal gained nearly $300 in a single week. Analysts are now discussing whether gold could reach $5,000 or higher. This sharp rise has been driven by weak employment data and global uncertainty. Markets around the world are closely watching every move.

Major banks have revised their forecasts upward for the rest of 2026. Standard Chartered now targets $4,650 per ounce for the fourth quarter. Commerzbank has raised its year-end forecast to $5,000 per ounce. Central bank demand continues to support prices, with 244 tonnes purchased globally in early 2026. If the Federal Reserve paused rate hikes, gold could climb even further.

In Turkey, gold holds deep cultural and financial significance. Turkish households are estimated to hold over $311 billion in unregistered gold. Much of this is kept at home in a tradition called 'under the pillow.' Istanbul's Grand Bazaar remains the heart of Turkey's physical gold trade. Investment demand for bars and coins grew 29 percent in early 2026.

However, high prices have also created challenges for ordinary buyers. Gold jewelry consumption in Turkey fell by 23 percent in the first quarter. Many families now choose smaller, lighter pieces for weddings and celebrations. Analysts believe gold will remain volatile as geopolitical tensions persist. If investors diversified wisely, they would reduce their exposure to sudden price swings.
